Have you checked the boost hose? Could be that
Being the silly git here, i took off the skid tray and took of the pipe leading into the intercooler and sure enough theres a split in it!

All of a sudden my 270cdi has created a what sounds like a boost leak. with the window down its a very loud air rushing sound, with the windows up it sounds like its coming from inside the dash on passenger side.

I found that the pipe off the turbo right beneath the radiator hoses had come off with quite a bit of oil around there, i have just put it back on thinking it would fix it but noise is still there, I have checked the other joints on the passenger side and cant seem to see any problems..

Any common areas/things to be looking for?

Thanks
Mine spat my intake air temp sensor out once.

Its on the air pressure charge pipe going into the inlet manifold

Hello, just had a similar problem on my 2005 CLK 270 cdi. Read on a different forum about making a pressure tester to check all turbo pipes. It took nearly a day to make the tester as I had to drive around different garages (I live in the countryside SW France) to scrounge a few old parts. Once tester made I connected my compressor regulated to about 8psi and found the split pipe in seconds; it was the last pipe that runs up to the inlet manifold. 62€ for the part and the car is fine again.

Interestingly though, I have a quite advanced OBD tester specific to Mercs and it showed no fault but I had noticed before the choosing noise started a couple of unusual gear changes under gentle acceleration with just small tube boost.

Cheers

I'm interested how you made the tester

Hello, not easy to post photos but I'll try and explain essentially what you need for tester.

1) 80 - 120mm length of thick flexible pipe about 60mm internal diameter
2) 80 - 120 mm length of thick flexible pipe about 80mm diameter at one end, other end as small as possible
3) 2x 60mm jubilee clips
4) 1x 80mm jubilee clip
5) screw-in tyre valve fitting
6) small piece of hose internal diameter of which allows snuggish fitting of tyre valve and that can then be fitted in other length of item 2
6) jubilee clip to size for fitting tyre valve

Then the job is pretty much as follows:

a) remove hose that fits onto turbo from the air filter
b) plug one end of the 60mm hose using a suitable item and secure with jubilee clip. Fit other end onto turbo flange and also secure with jubilee clip
c) remove pipe from hose that goes to inlet manifold
d) secure one end of 80mm hose onto end of the pipe removed in c
e) install in other end of your 80mm hose the other blank you have made with a hole through it to fit the tyre valve
f) pressurise system continuously to 6-8 psi until you find leak. If the system seems to hold pressure very well then you don't have a leak and the issue is elsewhere but this test will find a leak in most of the elements that are likely to fail

For the air supply I used my 100l compressor but adjusted regulator to maximum 8psi.
For the 80mm pipe I used a drive shaft boot that as 80mm diameter one end and about 20mm diameter other end. I wasn't quite sure if the boot would take 8psi so I wrapped a few pieces of duct tape around it.

Any questions I'm happy to answer.

Cheers

MY pleasure, and should you need to end up making the tester yourself for a similar problem I will be most interested in hearing how you get on.

Couldn't really hear anything on idle and at the time I didn't have a reader. But I'm sure when I took it in they said a code for jammed swirl flaps kept coming up. The car kept going in and out of limp mode. I wish I had got it sorted sooner as soon after getting that fixed I had a host of sensor issues. Dpf pressure sensor, catalyst temperature sensor and oxygen sensors came up needed up replacing all of them. My indy said it was because I left it so long to fix and with the car trying to regen often damaged the sensors overtime. I did leave it about 6 weeks tho.
I have a kinda air rushing sound when going 60mph. No limp mode and only a code for a catalyst sensor
