Hi there - I have just purchased my first MB and am loving it already. The 1984 280 SL just oozes class.

I have a little problem though, when driving at anything more than 30 MPH the hot air from the engine compartment is coming into the foot wells. This would be all well and good on a cold winters day but is not so good on a hot but wet day in England. There is no way that I can drive with the roof up and the windows closed.

Is this a design fault (I do hope not)? or is it something that (a) I can deal with myself or (b) I need to GSI (Get someone in) for?

Thanks for any help.

Cheers
Nick

its probably the monovalve

that is stuck on. I had the same problem myself, solved partly by putting in a new monovalve. The other bits of the equation are the dampers for the air system, and the monovalve actuating levers. If you call for heat on either side, the monovalve opens up fully. The eventual temperature of the air is achived by the system mixing really hot with coll external air according to where you set the slide. If your levers have become dtached or stuck, you won't be getting enough cold air on whichever side to cool the hot air down a bit. My poor passengers have to roast in winter while i sit in comfort. I'll strip it down yet and have it working properly though
