Our SL is 1983, 33000 miles, the hood has not been up for a year as I am unable to get in with the hood, so fair weather car and a problem of old age. The 2 small windows in the hood both have small holes where it was trapped, the main dealer advises these can be replace but will leak and advises new hood, apart from these 2 faults the hood is perfect any ideas please.

There are plenty of specialist car trimmers in the uk who may be able to offer a much more bespoke service than a Mercedes main dealer for a car like your lovely r107 sl.

I had the three rear windows on my r129 replaced. No leaks 12 months later.

My wife,s car, she has sadly died and I wish to sell the car.
Sorry to hear that, the information above about companies that replace the windows is good advice.

To prevent (or at least delay) it happening again you can place a tea towel on the windows as they fold so that the creases are much gentler radius and less prone to cracking.

Nice tip BC.
Also make sure the windows are clean with no dust or grit. Any dust and grit will cause it to scratch which creates a future weakness.

Or a rolled up towel, no thicker than a French stick will do the same job, just slip it in when it is closing. A second person makes it easy.
