Hi Guys,

Got a letter on Friday from Mercedes-Benz UK saying "Urgent Recall"

Basically it said that the crankshaft sensor needed replacing asap as otherwise you may experience random engine power loss. Therefore book into your nearest dealer for it to be replaced.

I booked it in and had it replaced this Saturday gone, only took 45 mins.

I asked which cars it affected and they said all 3.0 V6 CDI engines from 2006 onwards across the range, so E-Class's, S-Class, CLKs, C-Class's, CLSs, MLs, the lot.... By 3.0 V6 it relates to the 280 CDI and 320 CDI engines.

Thought I'd give you guys a heads up unless of course you already have received the letter.

Thanks for that jubhi. I haven't had a letter as yet, perhaps mine might escape it as it was built late-2005.

Cheers.

And a shed load of money. What a bad time for it to happen.

Hmm, surprising as we have the same cars. A colleague at work has the same car as mine which is also a 2007 car and has had the letter too and he knows others who have also.

I would have expected our engines to be exactly the same.

That's why I rang MB Watford.I hope they know what they're talking about.
Is there a website where recalls can be checked out?

As said before, its the build date that is in concern here, yes same engine, different batch of sensors fitted!

Its possible that they may be using a few differnt brands of sensor and only one make is affected..

It is the potting that has changed, and it seems to be breaking the internal wires, just like the old ones. these are still made by Bosch,,so it looks as though Bosch will be picking up the bill.

I will cut one open shortly and put up some pics
