Hello to all you Mercedes experts.
I am at my wits end with my current problem and am desperate for your advice.
I have a 300 TE (AMG Conversion)
Last week I got about 2 miles from my house and sat at a set of lights...went to pull away and the engine died and would not restart.I had the car recovered to my usual mechanics (Jaguar specialist) and after about 2 hours of spraying carb cleaner into the air intake and recharging the battery for an hour it eventually started.
Took it for a drive at high revs and it ran fine all the way home.
Next day drove 2 miles and it stopped again.Contacted my recovery guy and by the time he arrived it started fine and drove home no problems.
Since then it refuses to start.
In the process of getting it going at the Jaguar mechanics we undid some of the fuel lines from the injection unit and some brown sludge came out.
Have put some redex injector cleaner in the fuel but since it hasnt started since I doubt if it has had a chance to do anything.
Has anyone got any advice for me ???
I was just about to sell the car when this happened and as you can imagine this has hampered the sale somewhat.
Many thanks in advance.

Could be many things unfortunately.

My 1989 300E, had a habit of random engine stopping, particularly at junctions or when slowing down for them.

In my case, it turned out to be the fuel pump relay, which had 'dry' solder joints due to age and vibration.

Good Luck,

Richard

The fuel pump relay would be the primary suspect. A good first step is to decide whether it is ignition or fuel related. If both are okay, then suspect timing (ignition or valve). The latter only really apply if you have just done work on these areas, obviously if your car was running before, then its not applicable.

The fuel pump relay can fail intermittently, before it finally goes. As you've just found out...
