300ce 24v timing

Have changed timing chain and tensioners, since then the car idles fine but as soon as you give it some throttle it is very rough and flat.
Is this to do with the timing advance?
Any tips or ideas would be gratefull as i need to get it back on the road

Did you fit the locking pins in the camshafts and line up the damper marks before you dismantled

yes pinned the camshafts, what are damper marks? and does the variable cam have to be in a certain place.
