Hi all,

Last year I replaced the exhaust front section on my '89 W124 300CE - quite expensive, but very well made for the proper MB part.

The rear section has now started blowing where it goes in to the rear box - usual story, the weld rusts and then splits. I live right by the sea, so these exposed bits tend to corrode quite heavily.

Question 1: Is the rear section the same as on a saloon, or is it Coupe specific?

Question 2: Anyone know what the MB price is for the rear section?

Question 3: Are there any decent aftermarket solutions worth considering?Given that I don't expect the car to have more than another year or two's life left in it before expensive things start to go wrong, I don't especially want to spend big bucks on the MB system if something else will suffice.

All tips greatly appreciated.

cheers,

Nik

I'd suggest getting what you need from German Swedish and French (www.gsfcarparts.com) or Euro Car Parts. The middle and rear sections are a lot cheaper than the front section anyway, I have always had good service from GSF.

Thanks Alistair, appreciated.

Do you know if the rear section is generic on the coupe and saloon, or is it specific to the coupe?

cheers,

Nik

have a look on the GSF site, from what their catalogue says its the same part in both applications. Thats as much as I know I'm afraid.

Fair enough, thanks Alistair.

Might see if I can find any resources with visuals of the systems, so I can compare to my own.

Failing that, I've got a load of 50mm diameter flexible stainless hose in the garage.... ;-)

cheers,

Nik

Get it welded. It's a standard fix as far as I'm concerned. If you've no-one local I know someone in Hove who'll do it in half an hour
