I was trying to find the cause of the lack of rear electric headrest movement yesterday, so pulled up the passenger side back seat. There was a big rectangle of plugs and leads, and then a couple of mini compressors or whatever they are, with the pipes coming off them. The rearmost one seemed to have a relay that actuated when i press button on the dash, but nothing happened. Should there be some motor type noise? All the seals on the 'airpipes' seem fine at this end and at the headrest end and no kinks visible. Anyone know what may be the cause.

The other issue was in front of this relay was a small (maybe 2" x 1") cylindrical 'thing' that i accidently touched and it was hot, about the same as a hot radiator but not soldering iron hot. Anyway, thought this probably not right so disconnected the plug to it. I'm wondering if this relates to another vacuum system? Is there one to get in the back seats, i.e. to pull the front seats forward to get in the back? On mine, the seats backs just pull forward whenever, without having to touch the button on the side.

Any help as usual much appreciated.

Rear headrests drop when you press the dash button.Raise them manually.
Seat back is manual too. Black button releases seat back lock when doors are shut and engine running, otherwise they do nothing as seat
back is already released.
Airlines lead to the door locks run by compressor under right hand side rear seat. Its prone to failure and often burns a hole in the circuit board when the motor seizes up. Sounds like yours might be on its way...

I understand what's supposed to happen (sort of) with the headrests, but it doesn't work! :) when pressing button on dash, there is a 'click' from what looks like relay under the near side back seat. In front of this on the same side is the said hot motor. THe central locking etc. is located under the other seat but this all functions fine, it's the seats that do not function (just loose) and the rear headrests.

Cheers
