Hi, this is my first post to the forum. I just bought a 1977 300D which is in amazing condition inside and out.

The only problem seems to be that the brake indicator in the dashboard is on all the time. The previous owner (who I trust) assures me that the brakes have been checked and are in good shape (they feel great), and he has even supplied me with a new master cylinder which he purchased and never installed. His mechanic advised him that everything was working correctly, and nothing needed to be replaced.

If all this is true, does anyone have any idea why the brake indicator light would be on?

Thanks!
Michael

brake wear which is somthing like ( ! ) ?

shorted wire?

fluid level sensor dead?

try disconnecting the two wires on the fluid sensor on brake reservoir, or shorting them together.

OK, thanks. Is the fluid sensor the one on top of the reservoir?

Could it be a faulty parking brake switch , or does this have a seperate indicator light?
Just a thought.

welcome mmahoney, you are taking about the red "brake" light on the dash right? This light is for the parking brake.

In my '81 (same car'77-'81) in the past year or so the light malfunctions, come on/isn't on, but it is just an electrical problem, it appears; and i dont worry about it I have not notice any mechnical differances, just have to check to make sure i release the brake before i get going. I have had a few electrical wiring problmes thou.
i dont rememeber off hand excatly where the actual sensor is for the brake light.
there is also a brake pad wear indicator on he dash, but that is a symbol with an amber light.
good luck with your 300!
