Hi All

I'm a newbie and hope that somebody may be able to help me...please! I have a 1990 300E-24v, about 4th user. The car has mainly FSH, not all main dealer.

I noticed a bit of sluggish-ness about 6 weeks ago and when I parked the car up at home, it cut out on me as I parked up and it's failed to start ever since! The RAC have no idea - a local garage thought they had identified the problem - the amplifier(?), but when this was tested - it proved to be ok!

The car won't jump start, there is no spark to the coil, but the lights do come on - the car just won't fire up! I've put a new coil on - still no luck!

Any ideas anbody - please? :(

please excuse multiple (yet similar) replies ... i was thinking along the lines of needing more information regarding the non-starting issue. your problem has electrical overtones, but you haven't mentioned the fuel situation. there i go again, talking about fuel. i need to take more medication, maybe. or maybe i'll just ask you again about the fuel feed.

E300 TE24 won't start

Hi

Did you ever get your car going? We have a similar problem with a E330 24 valve that has been sitting in a garage since July last year. They suspect the amplifier but cannot be certain and its too expensive a part to buy if its not that at fault. I am interested in where you had your amplifier checked, if you could let me know, I'd be gateful.

Regards

Jon

give the overload protection relay a tap, remove and check to see if the unit has any corrosion on the connections underneath. Located on the n/s under the bonnet, under the scuttle pan. cheers.

E300 TE24 won't start

Hi. The garage has tried the overload protection relay, and that was fine. We have since had the car brought home (hopefully not to die) as the garage have given up the ghost with it. Does anyone know where we can get the amplifier checked out before we go to the horrific expense of replacing it?

E300TE 24 won't start

Hi

The garage tried a new crankshaft position sensor and every other part they could get on sale or return with no joy, and the next step was to be the amplifier pack, but it's an expensive part that cannot be returned. Thats why we wanted to try to get it tested before we spent money on it. Any ideas where they can be tested?

Hi

I've still had no luck! :( We had the amp tested but that came as ok - a local auto electrician based in Atherstone, Warwickshire. Cox Auto Electrics 01827 712097. Good luck.

I've now removed the engine management system (well one of them!) and about to get that tested. The auto electrician has advised that I get a wiring diagram and he will do some further tests.

I'll pop back on here in a few days and let you know how I get on.....

I had a similar problem with my old W124 260 E it turned out to be the main ECU. My local specialist dealer sourced a second hand ECU and it went OK for the next 50k until I sold it.

Take the distributor cap of the front engine cover and remove the rotor arm
the drive that rotor mounts to will properly be broke. remove the drive a hex bolt down the centre fit a new then should be ok. Common problem

the rotor is on the o/s of the front cover as the picture, you dont have to strip the engine this far. its the only photo i could find

Got it....

....the problem that is........my 'ez ignition control unit' has gone!!!

Any suggestions where I could source one from? MB want £1,600 for a new one!! I've tried to source one nationally and can get a second-hand one for £500, with a 90 day warranty.....is this a good deal?

Any suggestions as to where else I might try?

It's for a 300E-24v, 1989 model......hope that you can help....
