300e 24 valve

Hello, I have just registered.

I have a 1990 300e 24 Valve auto saloon.

For the first time last night I called into the pub for a quick drink. When I came out the car would not start, it tried but would not fire. I called the AA who could not get it going. They towed me home and the man said it is probably the fuel pump (he said it may need a tap) I have looked all day to find it but I am lost. Can any one help?

Your fuel pump is just behind the off side rear wheel just to the front of the tank, most cars now have two pumps, you will see an in line filter there as well. There is a plastic mud shield in front that comes off.

With someone looking and listening to the pumps, they will run in key 2,maybe just for a few seconds and then cut this is normal and would not be fuel problems, you could losen one of the filter union gland nuts and let some fuel run out in key 2, once again if fuel sprays out, then its time to change the crankshaft sensor that does the ignition and fuel timing.

Thanks Malcolm

The AA man said there was no fuel to the spark plugs as they were dry.

Could I change the crankshaft sensor (is it expensive), also where is it?
