My 1998 300E TD has a intermitent starting problem. The car has been serviced and the fault was diagnosed as faulty heater plugs. All these were changed but the problem remained. Another trip to the garage this time diagnosed as may a fuel supply problem. Once again no joy. Then after another trip it was the CPU settings, but once again no joy. Finally they have diagnosed this as a turbo problem, in that the oil seals on the turbo are allowing oil into the inlet manifold causing the problem when the car is left over night. Although I have asked for the work to be done, the garage deos not seem sure to committ to the works. Will this be the problem or not.
The car when started from cold will flutter on tick over and emit plenty fumes. If you touch the accellerator it will cut out. Next time started it will emit more fumes. Once the flutter has gone (say between 2-5mins) the car will run perfect.
