300E won't start on P but will start on N, pls. help!

My 86 300E will not start on Park shift but it will start on Neutral shift especially in cold mornings. I have no idea where to start. please help...

will it spin over, but not actually start on P - or will it not even do that?

if it doesnt turn over on P then it is very likely to be the switch inside the gearlever mech - theres plenty of info about how to remove it...

inside the gear cluster under the lever itself are a bunch of switches - its likely that the P switch has failed.

its a case of removing the console and having a look... theses a howto on here somewhere on console removal. http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/index.php?

actually - just noticed - 86 300E? thats a 126 series - so theres a switch on the side of the gearbox iirc which does the same thing....
