i have an '89 300se and about every 2 weeks or so the engine dies, normally with in the first mile and a half of the journey, it's def electrical as it just dies no coughing or spluttering, it normally takes about 5 mins to restart then she drives as if nothing was ever wrong!
any ideas?

the fuse in the OVP is fine i don't think it's the EHA valve, it feels like the engine looses the spark not the fuel....

With injection systems if the fuel pump stops the engine will cut.
the TDC sensor could cause this and cut the ignition.

TDC is the top dead center. there is a magnetic switch that tells everything when to work, fuel and spark.

Have you checked the fuel pumps, they should run for a few seconds in key 2.

You could losen the gland nut on the filter where fuel will spray out in key 2.

If you want further help with the punps, just ask.

My first thought would be to check the fuel pump relay.

I haven't had much experience with mercs having only owned one for a little over 2 weeks, but coming from Volvo ownership, I've experienced similar symptoms on 2 previous cars and on both it was solved by changing the fuel pump relay.

If you can get the cover off the relay to check the solder it may well be evident if it's damaged as it expands when current is passed through it in use and contracts when the engine is stopped. eventually this leads to it cracking. You even be able to wet the solder and see if this cures the problem before buying a new item?

maybe the Merc relays are better built, but on Volvos these symptons are very common when the cars get to 10-12 years old, and thankfully fairly cheap to solve.
