Hi,

I have a 1986 300SE and the odometer is not working, i have to account to my company for business mileage used which is proving difficult to calculate, is their a rule of thumb for fuel consumption? I was using an average of 5-6 miles per litre of petrol used is that right, or should it be higher?

Hope you can help

That works out at between 23 and 27 mpg which for a 1986 vintage is pretty good.

Looking at this page:
http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=193897

9.4/11.8/13.9 l/100km 90 km/h / 120 km/h / urban as per 80/1268/EEC

= 30mpg at 56 mph
= 24mpg at 70 mph
= 20mpg urban

So, unless you do lots of motorway miles, I would say an estimate of 21-22 mpg average would be about right. (about 4.5 miles per litre).
