Hi,

Can anyone help me, I have an 89 300se that is used rarely, it has not run for some weeks and won't start, it has a spark and has fuel up to the fuel distributor and it will start if you pour fuel down it's throat.

Can anyone tell me where to go from here, I am fairly confident it's not getting fuel from the fuel distributor

Thanks

Condensation on the rotor arm and in the dizy cap are the most common, but as it starts with fuel poured in, it could be the fuel pump relay. you could pull it out and bridge pins 7 and 8 and try the car

if your getting fuel up to the distributor then you could try cracking of each of the injector pipes to make sure its getting fuel out of the distributor! have you had the plugs out aswel if been sitting could require a bit of a clean up or replacing if its had some oil build up or are just very wet from trying to start! as television has said dizzy cap and rotor are most common! have you got a strong enough spark?

if you turn the ignition on & listen for the fuel pump running for a few secs to prime the system if not try the relay ...as per television

Disconnect the fuel pipe return from the pressure regulator, use something to catch the fuel. bye pass the fuel pump relay by joining pins 7 & 8 to check that fuel is coming out

Hi Tom -not sure where you are up to now but its sounding very much like the relay-before you pull it all apart just connect 7-8 pins together as ipreviously instructed -with a few stands of copper electrical wire twisted together --push relay back in and try it ??

The pump running at start up is no indication the that the fuel pump relay is working, it will run when you turn the key and then stop until it gets a pulse from the CPS.

With 7 and 8 bridged you do not put the relay back.

A wire with 2 4mm banana plugs is perfect
