300sl 1992 - Hood and hard top problem

hi i just bought a 300 sl and the button whihc is meant to remove the hard top doesn't seem to work. It only flashes. However when i manually remove the hard top, the operation to lock it back down works fine.

It had another 2nd hand ECO fitted only a year ago apparently. The annoying thing was that it seemed to work fine when i bought it, and the day after it stopped. All fuses seem to be fine.

Note that one the hard top is off the soft top doesn't work either.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Hi Tim. Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear of your troubles, the flashing switch is giving you a fault code.

Does the roll bar work, The roof will only work when it knows where the windows and roll bar are. So these must be re set.
With the key in position 2 lower the windows and hold the button for 10 secs do the same in the up mode The roll bar is set the same way raise it and hold the button and lower it and hold the button.

So do you mean hold the windows down button? Or lower the windows and hold the roof down button?

I assume the former since if i hold the roof down button you can hear it trying clamp down. Holding it might strain it i'd assume?

No Tim not the roof button, only with the windows and roll bar, this stores the info, and the roof then knows where everything is. This is the first step that must be done

Ok i've tried that. Windows down and hold for 10 seconds. Also to roll bar. Still the same flashing light when i try and pop the top though.

Can we reset the ECU somehow in case it got confused along the way?

Oh yeah that works fine. Up and down.

The strange thing is that we put the hood up and down when i bought the car. Then put the hard top on to drive it away. It was the next day when it decided not to work.
