The Fuel Consumption Gauge on my W107 300SL has stopped working and is constantly on the maximum level.

What could the problem be?

Is the throttle stuck open? :D

Seriously though, I think it works via vacuum from the inlet manifold, it may be worth checking the hose that feeds the vacuum to the guage?

Best,

Jim

Previous reply is correct - but the answer could be slightly more complicated. I've not had this problem on my SL, but did on the SE which works on the same principle. The solution was a perished vacuum pipe on the headlamp height adjustsr switch (also vacuum operated). It all depends on how the pipes are routed.
