Hi

I have recently had troubles with my 1988 300SL - engine cutting out without warning at inoprotune moments, like with 40 tonnes of artic right behind. Always restarted and Merc garage unable to find fault. Today wouldn't start but AA reckon it is either fuel pump or fuel pump relay. any views anyone. Also where is the relay on this car, AA virtualy dismantled the car without finding it, but gave a rew tips on sorting it out.

Many thanks

Remove glovebox - pull out pegs around inside of aperture, remove glovebox light, then pull out the interior of the box.

Fuel Pump Relay is straight ahead in a bracket attached to the bulkhead. It pulls out of its socket vertically upwards; no screws to undo. It may have something about kickdown written on it (subject to my failing memory), because it performs that additional function.

Bridging pins 7 & 8 (relay terminals 87 & 30) in the socket should run the pump. If that works, indication is a duff relay.

fuel pump relay

hi

depending on the year of your car the fuel pump relay could be part of the multi function relay which is silver and has a knob on the top of it to locate it ( twist 90 degrees) this is under the hood on the nearside just behind the fire wall

Piestore, are you thinking 129??, should be 107 at this age & its behind glovebox, you might be lucky, some models had a plastic panel at the rear of the glovebox for access (MAKE SURE WIPERS ARE SWITCHED OFF) or your nose picking days are over.

1989 300SE Not Starting

I have a 1989 300SE (US model) will crank but does not start. There is spark in the plugs. Based on the previous postings it could be the fuel pump or fuel pump relay.

If I turned the ignition on but I don't hear the fuel pump running. There is a square box with two fuses (maybe a relay) and I checked those and the fuse look ok.

There is also another box (black maybe another relay???), How do I test all these?

Thank you for any help

Chaps

What sort of price is the relay?

I assume genuine Mercedes is the only sensible choice?

Cheers,
