Greetings all !

Some advice wanted :

I recently had my 300SL soft top hydrolic rams changed (started leaking) and although expensive - the soft top was up and running again.

I was advised that i need to replace the rear bushes as they had worn out - i had this work done - but as soon as i drove out of the garage i took a rather sharp right turn which made the roll bar come up and lock into place ??? i took it back to the garage and was told that due to the car being jacked up from the rear - thi may have caursed the hydrolic fluid to shift around - hence resulting in the bar extending !!!

anyway after about an hour or so - the soft top system was up and running again - so i ignored it (bad move i think).

Now i find that every time i take a right turn i hear a clicking noise and with that the roll bar comes up - this is regardless of whether i have tohe roof up or down. Whats worse is that i cannot then operate the soft top or roll bar - until - well when the car decides it wants to work.

I took it to a merc specialist and he told me this was normal as the roll bar function was in essence there to balance the car on sharp bends / emergency braking etc. etc. - the problem is that its happening at every opportunity - bend or no sharp bend -

Any suggestions as to what this could be ?

Any sensible answers appreciated.

Thanks

MM

Should be an easy fix MM,

Have a look under your rear axle and you should see 2 switches with levers attached (1 on the R/H the other on the L/H)

These are the anti roll bar triggering switches.

Sounds that your R/H anti roll bar switch is out of adjustment, have a look and compare the R/H to the L/H, if the R/H looks higher than the left that is probobly the cause.

Not so sure if you should try and adjust them yourself as they're safety related. Also there is a small switch on each one that can be turned with a screwdriver, one setting is normal and the other to set the adjustment.
Not sure how to adjust them as I've not had this problem with my SL (Yet!) but it seems common looking at other sites. It might be worth having a look on www.benzworld.org as they seem to have a lot on this subject.

Good Luck

Thanks for your advice Webby -

I had a look under my car - and found the drivers side switch hanging off - hence every time i turn left - the roll bar pops up !!!

Its now in the garage awaiting adjustment !

Thanks again.
