300TD 124 Wagon 1987 Oil Leak

I have a persistant oil leak coming from the crank shaft pulley. Oil seeps by and follows the shaft and leaks out behind the pulley. We have pulled the pulley and tried to reseal it but in time it leaks again.
Question: Did MB have a upgrade or a fix for this problem?
