I have an odd, but hopefully easily fixed problem. My car has ASD, and at 75 mph the warning light comes on, and stays on. It will then go off if you decelerate, or slow up to less than 75mph.

The light comes on when turning on the ignition, and extinguishes once the car is started. Any ideas where to begin my diagnosis?

I'll have to check, stange that the car has to be going that fast before the ASD light comes on. I woinder if it is linked to the non operational cruise/ tempomat the car has...

Tyres all OK, same make, size and wear on both. I just opped out the ASD relay, will test it tonight to see if that has reset it as there seemed to be a bit of dirt in there that may, or may not have been upsetting it.

I'd check the OVP relay behind the battery(in 300ce anyway) also, as i've read that if it sticks it can effect cruise. No harm in taking it out and cleaning terminals/fuse etc.

Well, sort of......... ;o)

I removed the ASD relay completely, and the light no longer stays on. I've not bothered putting it back, as there is not point as I do not drive the car in snow, mud or skid pans.......

Montard,

I would still try and find where the fault is.
I understand that the system only locks up the diff at speeds up to 25kph, but it also has a torque dependant lockup of up to 35% lock at speeds much higher than this. The W124, I do beleive, drives much better in the snow with an automatic locking differential (ASD), but like you, we get very little snow (usualy none) in the course of a given winter.

But if there's a quick fix, no cost (or low cost) solution available, I'm sure you'd like to have it working again.

I'd love to fix it, so it works, but TBH, on a 15 year old car with 249,000 miles on it, it is a complication I can live without for now. I'll run the car with the ASD disabled for now. I still have the cruise to fix,a nd have not even started on that yet, it is a feature I really want to have working. No thread on here suggests where to start, not that I can find anyway.

Best,

Jim

I have now fitted 4 new tyres, and reseated the ASD relay. To no effect. I have just purchased a new OVP relay, so will be fitting that next. I'll let you know how it goes.

funny you should mention cruise

Mine is part u/s ( decelarates, accelerates, resumes, just won't CRUISE). Pascal found a piece in the american STAR magagzine, and i have found two articles on the german 107 sites. Perhaps it's worth all our whiles to get these things aligned and translated, draw lots for the guinea pig, and repair one.
