Greetings,
I have just joined this forum on behalf of a friend who has just acquired a 1992 300TE Benz. He wants to upgrade the audio system and as I am in the business (home audio systems only), he asked if I would take on the project :?
He has an old Blaupunkt head unit with only front dash mounted speakers. We have removed the old Blaupunkt which will soon be replaced with a new Blaupunkt DAB52 but would also like to know how fellow members have gone about getting over the limited speaker mounts in this estate car?
The in-dash speakers have been removed and they are just push-fit. Does any member here know of exact models we can use to replace this old speaker?
Are there any door conversion kits out there to modify the lower pocket sections of the front doors to incorporate better speakers?
Have any members fitted rear speakers in the estate? If so, where are how were they mounted?
And finally, has any member located a small bass box of some kind that can be fitted under the front passengers seat (I seem to remember a few years ago that there were some very small sub-woofer type designs that could fit under seats).
Please email any help or responses to: info@theaudiobahn.com
We are not related in any way to the large US company selling ICE.

Hi

Welcome and all that.

I cannot help with your post as I have the standard Estate setup.

But I will be interested to see what responses you get and feedback on your eventual as fitted solution for the 300TE.

Good Luck

My 230TE has two speakers mounted in the tailgate. Great if you are on your own in the car, with no luggage and the load cover not installed; not so good if you have rear passengers (who are deafened if the music is turned up loud enough to be satisfyingly loud for the driver!), or if the load area is full.

My dash mounted speakers don't work. The radio/cassette unit is not the original, and although a Blaupunkt it is an elderly, fairly basic model that I suspect some previous owner got cheaply. Eventually, I will get round to buying a CD unit for the car, at which point I'll find out if the dash speakers don't work simply because they are not connected, or because they are kaput.

Be interested to hear what you eventually decide to do.

Cheers

Alan

I run an E300DTD Avantgarde estate, which I know is a different model to yours, however, in this car they have fitted rear speakers in the rear doors, front speakers in the front doors and the dash mounted are tweeters, maybe a solution.

Hello

I've got a 300te, I've just changed the original Blaupunkt for a Kenwood CD player. When I bought the car, approx 6 months ago it already had the standard front speakers and a set of after markets cut into the vertical carpeted surface of the boot below the rear window. These worked fine until I had kids in the back and when I came to open the boot one of the speakers fell out and hit the driveway.

I've got no advice, but I would say that my experience is that it must be possible to fit them to the rear boot lid, just make sure you have kid proof screws holding them in!
