Hi,

My dad has got a R plate 310 sprinter, its not common rail injection, but the semi electronic system.

We are having a few problems with it, namely that it seems incredibly slow compared to an identical sprinter we have driven. We bought it a few years ago with a blown engine, and rebuilt the engine, using genuine merc parts (from MercTrucks).

We have checked and double checked the injection pump timing, and have replaced temperature sensors and the turbo boost sensor. We have tested the turbo boost and it seems fine.

It just doesnt seem to have any 'crack' to it like a diesel should, it struggles to get to 40mph on a flat road!

Any ideas?

Cheers in advance

Might be an idea to take it to an Indy and have the fault codes read. It may be the MAF sensor, but I would get the codes checked first

Take off the intercooler if fitted and thoughly clean it, it could be quite clogged internally. Land Rover Discos are known to clog up very quickly. Where did you take the reading - at the manifold or turbo? Also check the boost valve is not set too low.

Does it get hot? could be the mixture is set too low My Rangey with Toyota diesel couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding when the mixture is set for the correct emissions at idle. I always reset it immediately after an MOT - the standard settings overfuel at low revs.

try re setting the ecu - un plug it for a few hours (its under the battery)

i did this (to fit cruise control) one afternoon, and it was much much faster after..

wis suggests:-
corrosion in contacts on loom from ecu to pump in black plastic 'bag' causing low voltage - check with HHT actual values...

Hi, I'm not sure if this will help but... I have a 1999 VW LT35tdi which didn't seem to have the power it should have. I eventually booked it in to an independent bosch garage who plugged it in to their diagnostic machine and simply said "yep, your mass airflow sensor is nackered". When it was removed there was no visible fault or anything but they charged me about £120 for diagnosis and fitting of new MAF sensor. I wheelspun the van out of their garage. The difference was astounding. I'd pay for the diagnosis... but if you're worried about the main dealer prices then source another diagnostic specialist.
Hope this helps.
