311 CDI Sprintshift "A" fault

Newbie alert hello everyone.

Just started working for a Fleet Managment company and we have loads of Sprinter 311 CDI vehicles with what I believe is called sprintshift gearboxes fitted.

We have a fault with one particular vehicle that wont allow drive when "A" is selected but will drive when "1,2 etc & R" is selected.

Any ideas welcome.

I will be around alot I have loads of questions.

Also the same vehicle has a start issue I believe it is injector related were the vehicle cranks but wont start on the key, it does however crank and start with easy start and runs fine but lacks of of power.

I dont have a diag kit yet so dont have error codes at the moment but will post as soon as we get the diag kit.


Also anybody know where I can cheap or free WIS repair manuals for this vehicle.

Hello Lewis and welcome

Cant help with the gearbox fault but this does sound selector module fault, once you get some diagnosis gear that will help a lot.

When a engine starts but has no power and sluggish this is often the MAF air filter

Plenty of wis stuff on Ebay.

One of our admin girls spoke to Merc today and asked about repair manuals they said they are downloadable from there website?

Are they free or is it best just to go for the ebay WIS manuals?

They are quite cheap to get the official WIS data from MB at least you will have the up to date info,,Ebay versions are a pig to install and run

O.k so got some error codes today.

P2203 -001 ASR no communication
P2203 -032 Cpontol module ABS implausable
P2204 - 001 Read fualt memory of control unit Sprintshift
P0500 - 001 CAN data are invalid
P1698 - 128 AC compressor CAN data transfer
P1470 - 008 Cable has short circuit pos. or neg
P1470 - 016 Charge preesure stored too low
P1481 -001,002,008 Glow plug failure cylinders 1,2, 4.

Summary:
Vehicle wont start but cranks, will start will some easy start.
Vehicle lacks power.
Can not select "Auto" will only allow manual gears i.e 1,2,3 R etc.

Speak to Rossetts comercials. They look after hundreds of these vans and have seen every fault under the sun.

looks like your starting problem could be the rail pressure sensor, maybe sticking or o rings worn (p1470)
g/box fault could be a selector problem as drives in manual. What happens with display when you have foot on brake then move selector to position A.
