My 53 plate Sprinter 311cdi has everyone baffled at my end and I would be very grateful of anyone who could shed some light on my situation. On the Saturday, we fitted a new complete clutch (flywheel, etc) and the van drove great. It went to work on the Sunday on multiple deliveries and no problems at all.
On the Monday morning, all the ignition lights came on when the key is turned to "on" position, but would not even turnover in the "start" position....nothing.....zip....nada!
Checked all connections, which were fine and we wired starter motor direct and she turned over, but did not fire the engine. I bought a new starter motor, fitted and again, Sprinter turns over, but will not start for anything. Called out Mercedes chief technician, who tested injectors with some jar type thingys sat on top of them, which I believe were supposed to fill up....or not....I'm not sure, but they didn't anyway, suggesting that no fuel was getting through.
Plugged his laptop in and fuel pressure reading 300+ and was advised that only need 240 ish to start, so pump ok. Test showed faulty crank sensor and cam sensor. Took out crank sensor which was covered in gunk from the old clutch. technician advised that he was 100% sure that was the problem and said that the sensor would be the reason for cutting off fuel supply.
Bought a new crank sensor, fitted it and no change! I'm losing my jeffing mind over the whole thing...can anyone help?
On the Saturday, I did take out the instrument panel and knocked off the module at the back, which I am lead to believe pairs the chip in the key to the van. Put it all back together and it ran fine all day Saturday and Sunday. Everyone I ask has said it wouldn't be that as it would show up with a start error and we wouldn't be able to bump it either.
What else would allow the van to be bumped start and run all day, but then would stop it from starting with the key by cutting off the fuel from the injectors.
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
