Just finishing off a lot of work on a 320 CE conv I bought to replace my 220 CE coupe and I noticed a noise from the fan. The last owner parked it under a pine tree so I suspect there are some pines still in there.

I started trying to remove the centre vent by removing the screw beside the glove box but got stuck and was affraid to force it. I put it back but now the on off dial in the middle of the vent is slightly depressed. Have I completly messed this up or is there a link with photos that can show me to finish the job or at least put it back the way it was?

Any help would be great - thanks

OK

Undo the screw at the side of the glovebox.

Get a torch and have a really good look inside the vents - you will see a hex screw with its head facing you. This connects the centre unit to the flap behind it, and must be removed before taking the vent out, otherwise you will end up with the araldite (ask me how I know).

To the right, top and bottom you will see a metal tab with an electrical screwdriver-sized slot in them.

These are clips which are fastened to the grill assembly.

You need two screwdrivers and three hands - down on the top tab, up on the bottom one, and pull the assembly carefully out.

As Mr Haynes would say "refitting is the same in reverse".

Happy to help

Tony

Thanks Tony - will have a go tomorrow. If I mess it up I have a 220 Coupe to swap parts over from.
