I took my 1999 car to the local garage to have the crank shaft pulley replaced.
when i was told the car was ready and when i picked it up the keys were in the ignition with the ignition left on, apparently for about 7 hours draining the battery.
When the mechanic put a boost charge on the battery various messages came up on the dash e.g. BAS/ARD and ASR or anti skid something.
When we did get it started it would not rev at all. The engine ran fine but not willing to rev so i had to leave the car in the garage.
My question is whether it has gone to some sort of safe mode or any ideas what to do.
Many thanks

The BAS/ESP error is normal after a power fail. Reset by doing lock to lock on the steering wheel. Others may have a better idea of what the problem maybe but really you need to have the errors read off by STAR to see whats going on. I assume the EML was lit up at the time?

Common thing what happens when jumping a 208 320, the air mass sensor gets cooked, no reason for it but seen it too many times now...........

so, is there a specific routine for connecting cars to jump one of these cars? Or is the best advise not to jump start one?
It seems stupid that a car can be so temperamental & so easy to 'break'.

The 203 can pop its rear SAM when jumped, as can the 211, 204 can pop the steering lock and so on and so on, they all have a chance of flashing up something when being jumped.......

Best plan is to connect to another car for an hour or so isn't it? To draw some charge? Or attach a charger to fill the battery, the user the battery to start the car as normal?

Cole can you confirm the best approach?

There isn't any way to deal with it, you could disconnect it for a while while charging but run the risk of popping it when you do reconnect it.......

I would guess that as the garage did it they are liable for the cost of the repairs as well

Very interesting posts from everyone, thanks.
I can safely presume then that this problem has been caused by the garage and will be expecting them to remedy the situation.
Any ideas of costs anyone ?
Many thanks once again.

If its the MAF, its around 150+fitting (6mins) but you shouldnt be worried about the costs if the garage are to blame

Colin,
Just for future reference, if my car has or shows symtoms of a flat battery, what should be my options, apart from not jump starting, is it a simple case of checking the battery, and getting a replacement, and make sure the AA guys just tow it home.

It seems a bit of an own goal to me if a manufacturer can make a car so fragile & temperamental that you can't jump it if you end up with a flat battery. Flat batteries are something that anyone of us could end up with ..... retuning from a few weeks holiday, leaving something on that might cause a current draw.
In 30+ yrs of car ownership I've never had any problems jumping other makes - even on recent cars with lots of electrickery
I hope that my battery never has to be removed for a simple flat battery.
