320cdi injector shot through top of engine!

Just got home after been recovered as my 2001 S320L cdi has shot an injector straight through the top of the engine!

What causes this?

Also, the injector is the end one right at the back of the engine (near windscreen) is this injector number one or six? Reason I ask is Mercedes replaced injector one and two just 4 weeks ago.

The rear one will be number 6.If your injectors are anything like my ml ones then they're only held in with one m6 bolt which is pathetic.Seams like the most common fault on diesel mercs.What happened?Were you going very quick?theres some serious compression behind them and that little bolt must struggle,sure you're not the first

This is why i bang on some much about tightening torque when replacing injectors, sorry to hear about your evening Dan!

No one knows of coarse if they were not all taken out to check when the work was being done

I take it the thread will have to be re-cut on the head...?

Dont suppose anybody knows very roughly how much the main stealer will charge for this job?

All I could see is what looked like a very clean/new injector that looked tapered, I could see no thread, and about 6"`s of it was visible. Unfortunatly its at the main dealer now and I cant get to it until Monday now

Well if it looked new, then it must have been replaced!!

the injectors look similar to the 270 cdi so there must be a bolt & clamp see picture

As S-A-M / U-N-I-T says "has the bolt snapped or come loose?"
that would be the bolt in the pic
probably need to remove the engine covers

Does that mean the head wouldnt have to have to be re-threaded??

Lol - remove the engine cover? Its completely shattered!

Lets hope the bolt has snapped Dan, be a cheaper repair if they can get the snapped bolt out, shouldnt have to re-thread if the above is correct!
