320SL or 500SL

Hi everyone.... I have £25k to spend on an SL..... in yr oppinion should i go for a 1996/7  5 spd 320sl or a  1995 4 spd 500sl......is there much difference in performance and running costs ???

Are we talking auto here?
5sp always better than 4speed, and the 320 will be much lighter on the pocket.....do you really want to have to pay for an 8 cylinder car?

Unless you have a burning desire to own a particular model, my advice would be to spend your money on the latest (newest) car you can get.

To get maximum value, wait until November/December. The new SL's will have appeared in the showroom, and the prices are always better at that time of year.

If you want one NOW, move as quickly as you sensibly can, before the sun comes out. (If it ever does!)

Thanks guys... ill be only doing about 6k miles a year as its a third car so dont really need to worry about fuel consumption..... was more interested to know whether theres much difference between the performance and the 5spd vs the 4 spd (autos !!) ??????

If you are spending £25k on the car and you only do 6k pa why are you concerned about running costs?

Good Question Steve. I am currently shipping a 96
SL280 to Australia for myself also and I am chuffed that
I don`t have the worry of the big motor.Does anybody have a rear seat for this model?
