When I have the cash realised on current sale [soon I hope] I `ve been considering a 320 CE cabriolet as an everyday car. Price wise the few I`ve filtered vary quite a lot. Are there any for sale out there and what tips would you pass on re purchase and experience as owner. Thanks in advance for those taking time to reply.

I think all the usual W124 caveats pertain to the cabriolet, so search this forum for details. I'd say they are even more spec- and mileage-sensitive than other W124 models and some versions - Azurite Blue with Mushroom leather springs to mind - are valued quite highly

if you're buying for a daily driver then I wouldn't buy an expensive low-mileage car

As with all W124s, get the spec you really want and then sit back and enjoy it - after fitting a Tracker and getting agreed value insurance

I guess it's true that as the 320 cabriolet tended to have more 'knobs and whistles' than a more standard car, there's more to potentially go wrong. Look in particular for sticking rear windows, hoods that get stuck, and other minor electrical faults. Great cars though!!

My neighbour has one with assorted electrical gremlins. Battery was losing charge, windows weren't all closing properly, tombstones stuck in up position, something afoot with the roof closure mechanism...

As I understand things, he hasn't got round to getting it sorted although he still drives it about regularly and its a lovely looking car despite being scruffier than my CE. Its a touramaline (?) green 320 sportline with AMG wheels.

They do look pricey - Charles Ironside perchance? ... 5 speed is slightly more economical as I understand it.

You could contact these guys:

http://www.ccbenz.co.uk/30621/index.html

although they appear to charge top whack as well.

You are looking at the cream of the crop here, low mileage, few owners and excellent condition - and they are (over)priced to suit. My low mileage CE-24V with FMBSH would be on these sites for at least double what I paid for it (albeit with tidied wheels and paint). I think it pays to look around.

As a comparison from the bottom end, this one has been on autotrader for ever:

Best of luck

My understanding is that with the Cab its the roof mechanism, you need to check it out, problems can be expensive and I understand very fidley to fix, time is money.

Well! I been and dunnit! Just purchased a silver 1996 E320 Sportline cab black leather, black hood 5 speed with 109K on the clock. It has the full spec minus electric seats although they are heated,no outside temp indicator and no draught deflector; two owner full MBSH. There is a small leak which could be the head gasket......at the price I paid I can afford to have the work done if it proves necessary......and I`m having the exhaust replaced. Once this Noah`s ark weather is over I`m raring to go.

Thanks for advice offered.

E320 Cabriolet

I've been following this thread & thought I'd put forward my opinion for what it's worth! The Blue E320 mentioned in an earlier post for sale at Charles Ironside I actually bought 4 weeks ago. On the face of it not cheap, but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. The car is truly immaculate in all respects with a superb history. I have just completed a 3,500 mile tour of France/Italy in it without missing a beat.
Coupled with that, I got a better deal from Charles on my old SL than anyone else & the service he provided was superb - he delivered the car himself to me in Yorkshire free of charge.
I would advise anyone looking to at least give him a try - having looked at a number of over-described examples before settling on this one, the extra is worth paying.
Anyway - happy motoring in you Cabriolet.
