:( As regards my European spec MB 1973 350 slc

This model has electronic fuel injection and contact points. No smog equipment cat or anything like that.

Can anyone help me with this problem.

I fire her up from cold and she runs fine initially. But after a time, usually about five to ten minutes she cuts out. On restart it only feels like she is running on about two and a half of the eight cylinders.

So I leave her for a few hours and wham, up she starts again until the same problem develops.

This has been getting worse as time goes by. At first this only happened occasionally, and when it did, I got longer times and or periods for the problem to occur and there was a shorter restart window.

Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks

Gerry

I had a similar problem with my 1980 SL350 where the car would start up OK but reluctant to idle when hot. Turned out to be a vacuum leak. There is a large diameter pipe at the front of the engine at the top. Another 6mm rubber pipe is teed-off from the main pipe. the junction was cracked and leaking. I have repaired with a combination of Evostick and self-amalgamating tape and is running fine.

I suppose you can always replace the pipes.

Thanks guys for helpful ideas. Problem now fixed. An old favourite culprit at fault. The connector to the injector triggers at
the base of the distributor wasn't making a clean contact. took it off, sprayed it with WD40 let it dry, reconnected, and
now (as we say in Ireland) its Oxo. Check also battery connections.
This has happened before, so anyone with similar problems...........

Thanks again

Gerry
