Can anybody help with a fault on my 350SL 1977 model.

The car has been garaged for a couple of years. I started the car last week and found that the hazard warning lights would not operate. The indicators work OK but when the hazard warning switch is operated the indicators stop.

I have removed the switch and checked the conntacts inside and they seem ok. The switch has about 10 connectors so i'm assuming the indicator are wired throught the switch. The fuse is shared with the indicators and is OK as the indicators work.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this model so I can check circuit.

Thanks Nigel

it's probably the hazard relay sticking

it lives with all the other relays somewhere under the dashboard. You can get at it by removing the footwell panel on the driver's side, or dismount your radio speaker and do the gynaecologist'd approach. Don't know exactly which one it is though. tyr the russian site for a wiring diagram.
You might be able to fix it by opening it up and spraying some contact cleaner in there. Don't knock it about though, that will bu**er it properly.

Thanks for your help guys.

Myros that Russian website is brilliant. How did you manage to find it?

I've checked the Hazard components (on the Russian website) and I can only find one which suggests both the indicators and the Hazards share the same relay. I had already looked at the relay and even opened it up to check inside. Theres a small circuit board with a transistor, a capacitor and a resistor. There was a bit of corrosion on a couple of the tracks which I managed to clean off. Unfortunately the fault was still there.

The indicators and the relay work OK which makes me think its a problem with the Hazard wiring.

I can't find any wiring diagrams on the Russian website, may be i'm looking in the wrong place? What I need is pin out details for the Hazards switch so I can check the wiring to and from the switch.

The Russian site does not give any more details, no diagrams, if you have a volt meter, you could check with the hazards turned on, to see if there is any voltage going in, if there is an allways live, then the switch grounds and completes the circuit.

I've just spent the whole day trying to fix the same problem on my 83 500SL- either the indicators not working, or the hazard lights not working, then both not working, and then the horn not working! First I checked the fuses (it seems there's 2 for the hazard no.12 & no13), then the switch which visually looked ok, then went back to the fuses and played around a bit and everythings fine - I think it's just dodgy contacts.
P.S. I'd love to know where the relay for the headlight washer/wiper is situated.

Sometimes hazard warning switches need repeated pressing to clean contacts inside make them work due to rarely being used
