I have a 1981 380SL which has been giving me some grief recently.
The car had been laid up for about 4 weeks. I took it out one afternoon and had done about 5 miles when it started to cough and splutter. The engine then cut out. (It did have fuel in). After trying several times the car restarted and I got going, for about 100 yards. It then died again. Basically, every time I started the car I could only manage a few hundred yards before it died.
A few weeks down the line and the fuel tank has been drained and refilled, fuel lines & fuel filter replaced. Now the car starts up and fires nicely, but once again if I try to drive it, it cuts out.
Can anyone shed any light on the problem, and perhaps provide a solution?
Please.
Thanks
