I've got a 450 SEL which since owning has had a problem with the sunroof only part opening. It slides back at normal speed to about half way and just stops. Tilt works fine.

Any one have any ideas??

You can remove the bung for the manual over ride, and tighten torque a little on the motor drive. Do lubricate the runers and make sure that you can wind it with the handle first.

w126 sunroof

I am having the same problem with my new 1988 420 SEL. The roof only went half, way like Justinos, the motor would just stop. I went to have a fiddle yesterday and it went all the way back fine. I greased the runners went to close it and it stopped 3/4 away across. I let go of the switch and had another go and it closed!!

It's now stuck closed but the tilt works!!! I can hear the motor working but it does n't move.

Any ideas on my next steps?

This is my only really fault on an 18 year old car!! I am loving having a V8 over my previous 280SE.

If you can hear the motor, then its a clutch or cable problem, you have the same clutch as the earlier posting by Jusitno.

Cured, It wasn't a problem at all. It seems the switch has a 2 stage effect. It will open and close to the same point, approx 4" open, and then you push/pull the switch it closes or opens the rest of the way.

I know that feeling!

Owned a 500SEC for three years and would you believe only on the day I sold it did I discover the tilt operation to the Sunroof!

Doh!
