I have a 1990 500 SL. For some time now, when cornering at brisk, but by no means extreme speed, the roll bar deploys.

Is it possible the sensor can be adjusted, rather than the entire control module being automatically replaced?

The roll bar trigger switch for your car is on the rear suspension, its a non adjustable mercury switch, as Flying scott say slow down or leave it up, then you can go faster.

While I appreciate the advice to slow down, the fact is that I am not talking about hard cornering or too much speed. I have had the vehicle since 1990 and it is only recently that it the roll bar has begun deploying at speeds that are moderate, to say the least.

I must emphasize that it is at the slightest bit of lean...the slightest...that the rollbar deploys. In the meantime, I now drive with it deployed at all times, but that is not dealing with the problem.

Is the switch/sensor replaceable?

Thanks

Yes, its only a switch, if you go to the web site
http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb0.asp?TP=1

find your car using the VIN, as it is an early one you may find it under the 124's

go to rear suspension,if you cant find it ,come back, you have 1 each side on your car, this was changed on later cars, its switchS83/2 left and /3 right.
you do have other switches in the circuit that could be going. Sorry about the teasing on speed. if you get stuck I can send you a diagram where they all are.

malcolm:

Thanks very much for that information. If it is not too much bother, the location diagram would be much appreciated.

And no problem whatsoever with the teasing about speed. I actually wish I could "pick up the pace" a bit when cornering these days.

But, armed with your information, I may soon have the wind in my hair once again! (at least what's left of it.)

Cheers from the colony,

Barrie
