500 SL Soft Top Stuck Red Light Flashing

I borrowed my brothers 500SL and put the soft top down and up. Now when I pull the button to put the top down the buttons red light flashes and the top does not move. The top does not seem to be jammed. Is there a reset button. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Roll bar might have to be down in order to put top down. If roll bar came up while driving you need to hold roll bar button in up position for about 10 seconds to reset then down position to lower.

Could be a zillion things, but I have had a similar experience and found a simple fix.

For me, my top, window drop, etc, had somehow gotten out of sync. Didn't notice it, but that light kept flashing.

Turned out that the window had 'dipped' its little bit once, and at that point the window fuse blew. didn't notice the window issue, everything else worked.

But, pulled the fuse (in the trunk on the '95), replaced it with a new one, and went through the window resync from the OM.

Don't recall it exactly, but it was something like power the window down and hold for 2 secs., power up and hold for 2 secs. Everything then worked fine and the red lights went out. That was about 5 months ago and no problem since, the top has gone up and down several times a day since.

Is the light flashing slowly ( once per second ) or quickley (3 times per second ) if its flashinf slowley the criteria for opening the top are not met ie, speed, luggage cover not in place, if its flashing quickley there is a fault logged and a visit to the dealer is required
