500SEL Engine Problem - Won't start,Won't run

I have a 2000SEL Imported LHD model which I bought to put it back on the road where it should be, However the only way to get it to run is by pouring some fuel down the air intake. It will then start and run Ok if I keep it above about 2500 revs, when i come under this it just peters out (sorry peter) It had been standing for about a year and at some stage the fuel pump had been taken off and replaced. I changed the Idle control valve to no avail. I suspect myself the computer must be sending the wrong messages but I dont know. Can anyone out there help.

Hi Lenny.  For testing purposes it would be worth trying to bridge the fuel pump relay so it provides a constant live feed to the pump whilst the ignition is on. The fuel pump relay relies on feedback from the engine (it uses  a rev sensor) which cuts the supply if no revs or if over reved, so it's worth taking this out of the problem loop first.   If this is the problem I think new ones are about £ 80 and 2nd hand £ 40.  

No use- next step then; Borrow a fuel ECU from a friendly owner of another V8 alloy block 126 or 107 and try starting the car.  Buy them a crate of beer if it does and then ring around every 2nd MB spares specialist you have ever heard of to find a replacement.
