Hi there - I apologise if this is a basic question but I am after some advice. I have a 1987 500SL with a number of engine issues and am thinking about replacing the engine with either a completely re-conditioned unit (very expensive) or one from a donor car. My question is whether the 5 litre engine used in late 80's 500SE/500SEL is compatible or indeed, whether an engine from an early 80's 500SL would be the same.
