Get a large skrewdriver and hammer it in the side of the wood and then lever it up It may mark the wood a bit but it will come off.

Well sclass is the old mole wrench and lump hammer type mechanic but me I'd lever up the edge of the plastic surround to start with. It's a push fit and doesn't take a lot of moving. Put a piece of cloth on the wood to protect it and then use a small flat bladed screwdriver to lever up one edge. Then just use your hands. I'm not sure if you can reach everything once the surround is off but it will make things a bit clearer.

Don't think so sclass like landover says do you want the guy to wreck his car. There's no need for a hammer and you need to protect the wooden suface (oh and it's a small not a large screwdriver) but apart from those minor differences you said the same as me :!:

The real way to remove the centre console

I've done this a few times.

1) Open the storage compartment in front of the gear stick and remove the small philips screw at the back near the console.
2) In the storage compartment gently pull the sides of the trim on each side, they should fold down, you can then remove the storage compartment trim.
3) Remove the radio
4) Remove the heater controls by pushing the box from behind though the radio slot.
5) Remove the 2 screws from the front of the centre console (that were hidden by the trim)
6) Now gently lift the console a little, this will release the gear change suround that you can now lift off.
7) Remove all the connectors to the window swithes etc.
8) Lift console.

Thats it, should take you no more than 30 mins!

Good luck
