Does anyone have information regarding potential causes for an intermittent loud popping sound in the driver side speakers. Sometimes it pops, then goes completely silent, and sometimes it works OK. All other speakers appear to work fine. This is in a '95 500SL with a Bose sound system. Thanks.

I would have said that the front speaker amp chip was faulty as there is no noise frome the rear, very easy to change or have changed.

Thanks, Malcolm. Is that chip in the unit behind the driver's seat....and is it identifiable? I've not opened an amp before. Ron

I have this fault on my C220 CDI.
I have the audio 10 installed (only the cd in the head unit).

It makes a loud thump in the drivers side speaker, the rear speakers don't work (at all) and once the thump happens it give white noise for about 3 seconds.

My question is, do I have an amp hidden away and could it be the chip mentioned in the post above.

Any output stage chips are in the power amp, and does sound as though it is faulty, any good car radio repairer could fix this

Many thanks television for your reply.

Any idea where I might find the amp ? it's not in the boot or under driver/passanger seats.

Thanks as always,

Mark

If it is a stand alone radio,ie Audio 10,20 or 30 it is in the head unit, only when you have the Bose is it more likely to be in there

Sorry to go back on an old thread but did you sort this problem out on the end? I have the same problem on a '96 W210. The rear speakers I thought had blown as they crackled a lot at first and then stopped working a couple of weeks later. A few weeks after that and they are crackling again....it's got me wondering of it is the Bose amp thats playing up.....anyone recommended who can fix these things?

Have potentially found an amplifier but it has a very slightly different part number to mine. Mine is part no. 2108200689 and the one I've found is 2108202689 anyone know if they will be compatible? They look the same....?

Have you tried a different loudspeaker as once they start going noisy the cone goes off center and wears away the speech coil or one of the flexi wires becomes bad joined.

Do try another speaker first, I was away when this post came up

Would the speaker still make a noise even when the stereo was off though if it was defective?

Dont quite follow this, if the amp is off there should not be any sound from the speaker
