auto trader, ebay and mercedes enthusiast mag would be my suggestion. We don't get many cars for sale here to be fair.

I went to see the white one on autotrader and came away disappointed. It was a dog. Good choice though - if I had space I'd have a 126. Just make sure that there is little or no rust, the gadgets work, headgaskets are ok, suspension levels correct and you can afford the petrol.

Cheers for the help lads. 420SE sounds nice but I'm being model specific, really want a 560 SEL. New venture for me,as I've always been into the Italian stuff. What kind of money should I be paying for a good one with average mileage and plenty of history. Had a look at a couple that have been for sale local to me, but neither really set me on fire

Couple of grand for a good private sale or anything up to £15,000 for an absolutely minter from a stealer; mine was £260 from an auction but has done 300,000 miles!

You may as well get the 560 as they don't cost that much more and because of the more modern engine the fuel economy isn't massively different to a straight six or the other v8s.

When looking, the most important thing is to probably check the rear suspension as there should be a pull switch to raise and lower the car. The valve is by the rear axle and is prone to leaking, which would be hugely expensive to fix. Other than that, pretty much bulletproof.
