I´m going to order and replace the NGK ILZKAR7A10 spark plugs in my M156, but I can´t find any credible informations about recommended gap. Here I found it should be .99 - 1.016 mm https://mbworld.org/how-tos/a/merce...xt=The recommended spark plug gap,990-1.016mm).

Guy in another MB thread wrote it should be adjusted to .80 mm only.

What is the best spark plug gap in 63 AMG? Maybe it really doesn´t matter that much, but when I give the best to my car, I want it to be set up properly :)

Thanks

Get the right plugs for the car, they will have the right gap, have you tried MB

In my experiences, almost zero spark plugs come with correctly set gap.

I haven´t tried MB yet

These plugs will come set at 1mm gap. E.g. correct gap.

Thanks all, I´ll check if they are set exactly at 1mm.

Just to add...spark plugs can have a variety of applications and may not necessarily be set to the correct gap for your vehicle, so you should always check with feeler gauges before fitting.

I won´t install them without checking the gap. I can bet my house that all 8 plugs won´t be set the same.

I don´t have feeler gauge, but I have very accurate digital vernier.

^ Feeler gauges are very inexpensive.

I know, but do you think the digital vernier won´t do the job?
Thanks

Is there such a thing as an accurate verynear .... ;) and you can't gap a plug with a verynear :)
That probably lost a bit in translation, but speaking as somebody who uses vernier calipers every day in my job...yeah I would completely agree. :)

The NGK quoted by OP are factory set at 1mm - it's in the specifications sheet.

so there was at least one person who understood my play on words ;)
After years of using a digital vernier I then had to go old school & line up the lines ..... that's when I realised I'd got old & needed glasses to read the ****** thing!

I've not had need to gap plugs for years. They either came set or, they were multi earth electrode facing the side of the centre electrode rather the end like a conventional plug & it's impossible to gap them with feelers

That maybe so...but I still wouldn't fit any spark plug without double checking the gap first.
To me it is just the sensible thing to do and only takes a few seconds of my time.

Yep, tell me about it...I hate the ones with the lines. We still have them in my work but I prefer using digital or the ones with the dial gauge on them.
Reading micrometers is becoming a problem now because I need to hold it a certain distance away to focus correctly...but then it is often too far away to read. o_O

The spark plugs arrived today and they were set from 1.02 to 1.08 mm.
Not much of an error, but I corrected them to 1mm anyway :)

Allways check your new spark plugs gaps, do not rely on manufacturer setup.

Did you buy feeler gauges then? I'd love to know how you might use a vernier to gap a plug .... especially to 10ths of thousands of an inch

Not yet, but I will and check the gaps again.

How did I measure the gap: 1. grab a spark plug, 2. place the vernier upper jaws between ground and centre electrode, 3. measure.
No big deal if you have some experiences with verniers.

But again, I will buy the feeler gauges to confirm my Mitutoyo vernier results.
