I tried to change discs whilst driving the other day, but the cd player seemed to tie itself in knots and wouldn't play another (or any!) disc.

I tried ejecting a disc when I got home but the head unit goes through the motions but no disc appears.

I have tried ejecting various discs individually and also "eject all" but they remain consumed.

Any ideas how to recover discs and get system functioning again?

The system has probably changed but on our 2004 230 the CD's are loaded in a cassette in the auto changer behind the seats. Common fault that the cassette gets stuck and won't eject. If yours is the same hold the eject button down and give the cassette a couple of sharp raps with the handle of a screwdriver. May have to do this a few times but the cassette will eject. If a different system, sorry I can't help!

The CDs are inserted into the head unit itself not a remote autochanger unit.

Old tip from the late great Television (god rest his soul). Take the appropriate fuse out that powers the CD head unit for 10 mins, re-insert and try eject again. Worked for me at the time. The fuse diagram in the space behind the removable panel on RHS at end of dashboard gave me the fuse number and location.

Hmmmm....

Fuse diagram was with the towing eye in under the boot floor.

There must have been some water in there in the past and it is crispy and solid now.

Any idea where I can get the fuse diagram for a 2011 R230 SL350?

I can make out the following:

Stand: 2007-07-26 - A230 545 05 00

Wow - thanks AndySlade.

I was rather sceptical that such a simple solution would work - it did!

And somewhat serendipitously, the track playing when it came back to life was Lucky Man by the Verve.

Putting all my CDs onto a USB now so just need to work out how I can access different folders/ tracks as it is only showing AC/DC at the moment (which is no real hardship, but it would be nice to have all the other stuff too).

That’s Television for you, his advice on all things Mercedes especially electrics was sage.

Not sure if it is related but....

After my recent win above, I started the car yesterday and was presented with the yellow engine management light along with the message "service B exceeded by 12 days".

I had been getting a service countdown since I brought the car back into commission at the beginning of the month, but had been ignoring it for the moment.

Could the EML be related to the service reminder in a cynical ploy by MB to put the frighteners on me and get the car in for a service?

I have now ordered an icarsoft MB V3 OBD code reader and will give my indy a call tomorrow.
