Hello my fellow friends,

I’m going to do a full filter change tomorrow on my dads 2010 E350 and I’ve heard the fuel filters are a right pain to get to. According to Xentry portal and without lifting the bonnet, it’s got the A6420920201 style where the sensor is tucked in the corner of the filter. Are there any tricks to getting this style of filter out? Apparently the intake seals from the intake assembly that connect to the turbo wear out very easily on these engines so should I change them anyway as part of the service? Is there anything else that you guys also recommend I replace whilst I’m under the bonnet? Vehicle has done 107,000 miles. I’m going to replace the throttle with the superseded throttle as it keeps fast idling and Xentry has came up with a fault twice now in CDI and ESP saying it’s faulty. Also debating replacing the battery as it doesn’t get used very often and charges at 13.8v so maybe the battery is weak?

Thanks all

Not sure about the filter but the battery should be changed before you spend money on a new throttle body the car will fast idle if the battery charge is low or the car is doing a DPF regeneration (in which it pushes the revs up to 800rpm for 20mins or so at tickover)

It idles at 800rpm very intermittently which he doesn’t like one bit but I’ve bought the superseded throttle and an MB battery already so I’m going to change both as I think the battery is original. I’ll be replacing the throttle pedal and not the throttle body :)

Good idea to change the battery (with MB or Varta) do that first and you may have resolved the problem

Do you know if when you put an external charger on the charging/jump start points on a W212 if it charges the Aux Battery as well as the starter battery?

It should do MB cars don’t like low voltage it can affect many aspects of how the car runs and spurious faults

I’ll replace battery this week when I do service; I’ve got the newer AGM/VRLA 80Ah battery for it so hopefully will charge faster anyway with it being AGM as current one I believe is just VRLA unless it’s the same technology? Hopefully the charger will charge the aux battery too and it will be the end of the hassle. I’ll run a midtronics test on the old battery as I’d be curious to see what it thinks to the old battery as it always starts it even if you leave it for a month it’ll start straight up without a jump starter but its been charging at 13.8v for a long time! Every time you floor it the EML will come on and in CDI it will say Component ‘B37’ accelerator pedal sensor is faulty; hence I’ve also bought the new pedal. Hopefully we haven’t got a dying alternator as well

Give the new battery a top up before fitting which is always a good idea, how the car runs when the new battery is fitted should reveal all even if the alternator is failing
