Hi, I thought that all Mercedes have had chains on for a long time now but someone has told me that the Renault engine in my E Class actually has a belt, is this correct and if so when does it need changing? Thanks

If you're referring to the E220d in W213 guise it has a simplex chain

Half an engine.

(Compared to Russell's)
Power to weight is all that matters (he says, but would quite like to have a 5.5 Bi Turbo in the i8 to have the best of both worlds economy be damned...)

Renault engines were the lower capacity diesels in the A class weren't they?

Early BMW Mini engines were redeveloped Chrysler Pentagon units called Tritec in BMW terms.

They were and are....
And, didn’t know that about mini engines, I’ve heard they appear in large motorcycles though

1st Gen BMW Minis were supercharged Chrysler 1.6s, later replaced by turbocharged Peugeot 1.6s and now replaced by turbocharged BMW 2.0 units (all these refer to Cooper S versions).

You need to update "your Mercedes" in your profile if you now have a 68 Plate W213 E220d - it is a really great, fuel efficient engine in a great package (can you tell I miss mine) :(

The diesels aren’t Renault anyway. They’re Nissan 1.5 K9K DCI units, same as fitted in Qashqai & Juke. A & B Class 150-160 badges have these.
