hello people

I have just entered the world of mercedes ownership having found myself the owner of a 1972 280 ce which set me back £475.
Obviously at that price it needs some work and the major problem seems to be the paintwork.
It's a kind of copper shade of gold???? (do I get the paint code from the chassis number?)
What I also wanted to know is how easy is it to get hold of? do they still make it?

All help is gratefully recieved

The paint code is under the bonnet or in the boot marked paint code.

Cellulose products that your car was finnished in are now almost banned from use. It is available in water based, but you cant use that without an oven, you cant apply the top two pack either with an oven. You may find a paint supplier that has some cellulose in stock

Try the VIN number here for the code, but it is on a plate as described.

Thanks for the info, I'm quite new to the actual restoration of the classics as I have been reading magazines like practical classics for years without ever doing much hands on work so please excuse my lack of knowledge.

What you say about the type of paint being banned and the fact I would have to use an oven, what would be the best advice you could give me?

If you were to strip the car your self and do some of the donkey work some coach works will do the re spray as they do not have a problem with the paint used, You have a lot of coach works in essex, ask for a quote

To spray a car yourself for the first time is near impossible.
