Hi, Thought that i would pass this info on to forum, having approached mercedes again for a auto transmision dipstick and been refused yet again claiming workshop tool only! not for the public i looked on ebay and found this company in the States that sell the correct tool, now having owned a genuine mercedes tool, this one is of easily matching quality, looks genuine to be honest, so can recommend this and stuff mercedes with there workshop only attitude,so the company is called KONIKTOOLCOM item no-400044668726 costs $39.89 about £27.00 shipped only £2.00 more than merc tool, cheers Dave

I think they have a policy in the MB Dealers that the customer has to ask 3 times before they order you one . I have had to ask 3 times each time i wanted to buy a dipstick and tell them that ive had one before. I think i paid about 40£ maybe bit less for mine .

Restrictive trade practices again and not allowed in the UK.

Some one will challenge them one day over this

How the hell can an ATF dip stick be classed as a tool when in many cars there is a dipstick fitted to check the engine oil?

What would happen if you lost the engine oil dipstick and tried to order a replacement.... would you be told that you can't, because it is classed as a tool?

It's made to fit the majority of MB autoboxes and is not specific for your car, thats how they get away with calling it a tool.

The whole point is that MB cannot deny the right to anyone who wants to repair their own car, they are breaking every law in the book.

What shocks me is how, what I presume to be roughly a metre length of springy wire, can cost in excess of £30. I think my bit of curtain wire cost me 50p!

MB do seem to operate in a price bubble at times, yet other original parts can cost less than pattern

MB must know that they are on sticky grounds by the refusal to sell them,,so they put the price up instead to put people off

Take measurements off dipstic when you get your friendly dealer mechanic to check level. Then make your own using 3/16" ish plastic coated copper wire hammered flat at end to reduce poicking oil up from tube internal face. Bob was my Uncle !!

Mine cost 99p................for a 6' length of coated net curtain wire, I just couldn't justify the expense when I could make one that would do the same job for less than £1.

And you only use it some every 2-3 years or unless something is wrong
