Anyone serviced a 722.6 transmission? Wondering if w204 can be filled from underneath some say they're sealed others say you need a thermal reader and dipstick plus new red clip or you fill oil up through the drain plug with with special pump. Sounds a mess around for a simple auto service

You are describing the 722.9 7g service . The 722.6 is 5 speed and much easier .
If you search 722.6 gearbox service on YouTube there is plenty .

The 722.6 5g box can be drained via the sump plug . The sump has normal bolts (rather than stretch bolts that are on the 722.9). You will need to fit a filter and clean the magnets when the sump is off .
The dipstick tube for the gearbox in the engine bay , with the red tab you mentioned can be used to refill the gearbox .
I Get the gearbox level roughly correct and then take the car for a 25-30 minute drive before setting the level exactly with my £10 eBay dipstick (which isn’t in the cars dipstick tube already) .
As an extra because Fuchs ATF is so cheap , i suction out the gearbox sump ATF every year with a Pela pump via the dipstick tube and replace the 3.5L of fluid in the sump . Costs £30

Every year. Only @Wighty would do that.

Yearly I do all mine yearly too, as oil is oil.

You will also notice doing t this annually, the car doesn’t need a few miles for fluids to get warm where it feels better. Ratter, it’s silky smooth from cold.

Another way is to disconnect the cooler return; pump 2l, top up 2l, and repeat
