Hi guys my E500 is on axle stands at the moment. After a day I noticed the whole pan was wet. I did replace the gearbox oil and filter and fitted new bolts torqued 4nm then 180 degrees. I nipped the bolts again and the leak has appeared again. Because it looks like I have to drain the oil and drop the pain again I would have to order new bolts again because they are alloy stretch bolts. Is there a replacement stainless steel option instead of using the original torque to yield bolts which love snapping?

Thanks

Thanks. Its seems to have mostly stopped the leak after I nipped the bolts . Fingers crossed it stays like that.

Hi,

Did you replace the gasket? I would have done.

As a rule the service kit, will include a sump gasket . Just bought one for my w124 auti box .
Thats if you do a proper job.....

To the op, use what is recommended (stretch bolts and the correct torque and always a new gasket when separating items with a gasket) make sure mating surfaces are clean and flat.

I doubt is nessacary to replace the pan bolts myself. If they wash up clean I wud be putting them back it's only a tin plate pan fcs. Checking pan is flat is important. It will pinch the gasket if not. If ur curious take one bolt put in nut of same thread, prob 6x1mm put in vice go 40%over measure bolt see if still same length as origional (the main reason , in my view for the setting is not to strip the housing threads
I think it's more about the gasket and the Pan than bolts myself
It's very rare I break a bolt tightening it. I would put that gasket up dry as well.
